One of those days...

So, I was in charge of the "Spooktacular Halloween Bop" today at my school. After studying the turnout at similar activities last year, my elementary student body officers made plans (and back-up plans in case our plans didn't take up enough time). We did permission slips, advertised, collected prizes, and bought treats. We had parent volunteers lined up. We had faculty members enlisted.

And yet, somehow all that careful planning exploded into a flaming pile of poo.

Have you ever walked into a room and found yourself SUDDENLY and UNDENIABLY faced with a sight that leaves you unable to think of anything other than ... "Ah, crap."

Yeah.

I didn't count them officially. But there were at least 130 kids at that party today.

We'd planned (and shopped) for around 80.

You want a scary Halloween party? You got it.

Good grief!

Didn't anyone ever tell you to over-buy for every party you're in charge of? Feeding the 5000 only works for some people -

Flaming piles of poo can be fun in their own way. ;) ...So did it work out okay anyway?

No! It was barely contained chaos the ENTIRE time. I went home, bought some ice cream and bubble bath, and hid for the rest of the night. And if anyone gives me a hard time about it, I will probably just start screaming at them. But the spook alley was a big success, and they all got to play games and have a treat, so I guess it wasn't a complete bust in the end.

Still, the next event I plan will be a movie. Where no one is allowed to talk. Or move.

Wow. That sucks. All those kids must have heard that you were in charge and decided to go because you are amazing.
